Dear all Humboldtians in Southeast Asia,
On behalf of the Humboldt-Clubs of Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand, we are pleased to announce that this year, we are joining the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in celebration of the 250th anniversary of Alexander von Humboldt’s birth. We will be hosting a historic Humboldt Kolleg in Bangkok, Thailand from December 19 to 21, 2019. The conference will be held at Chulalongkorn University, which is located right in the center of Bangkok.
The theme of the conference is “Southeast Asian Research without Borders.” There will be a special commemorative speech on “Alexander von Humboldt’s Legacy Today,” delivered by Prof. Dr. Kttisak Prokati, a well-known Humboldtian and Thai law professor at Thammasat University. In addition, we will be announcing the establishment of “Humboldt-Club Southeast Asia,” which will allow Humboldtians in the region to take turns organizing the Humboldt academic meetings.
We expect that this First Southeast Asian Humboldt Kolleg 2019 will attract about 100 regional Humboldtian participants to give either oral or posters presentations. We will also be inviting at least four German professors to join the conference as plenary speakers.
Thanks to the financial support from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AvH), the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) and other granting agencies, all Southeast Asian Humboldtian participants and invited speakers will be fully supported by the organizer. This includes round-trip airfares, accommodations (2 nights of Dec 19 and 20), food, local transportations and social events. There will be a Welcome Dinner on Dec 19 and a Gala Dinner (Chao-Praya River Cruise) on Dec 20.
While the meeting program has been worked out preliminarily, we would like to ask our Humboldtian guests to register as soon as possible (www.humboldtclubsea.net), with providing tentative titles of the talks, so that we can finalize the program promptly.
We hope that all Humboldtians can join the Bangkok AvH Kolleg 2019 and witness the formation of the Humboldt Club Southeast Asia as a common platform for future collaborations.
See you all soon in Bangkok,
